Nashville recording artist, Tammie Davis, headlined this summer’s second Music Under the Stars concert at Shallowford Square in Lewisville, North Carolina.

Music at the Square

Singer-songwriter Tammie Davis and her band rolled into the Town of Lewisville, North Carolina last Saturday evening (August 8, 2009) for the town’s second Music Under the Stars summer concert. Originally from Lincolnton, North Carolina, Tammie now lives in Clemmons with her husband Mike.

For nearly two hours, Tammie and her band filled Shallowford Square with some sweet and sassy music that included Country, Southern Rock, and Americana selections.

SPECIAL GUEST
During the band’s intermission, 12-year-old CiCi Jansen from Charlotte belted out a few of her “new Country” favorites to an appreciative audience. CiCi has been winning music competitions lately, and she especially likes the music of Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.

West Forsyth Jazz Band

On Saturday, May 16, the West Forsyth Jazz Band played for the Music Under the Stars concert series at Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Under the direction of Chris Garmon, the band performed a variety of jazz pieces throughout the evening, including solos by a number of instrumentalists.

The students and adults playing in the jazz band obviously enjoy making music and sharing it with others. When you look at the evening’s photos in the photo gallery, you can see the passion and enthusiasm in their eyes. That passion coupled with skill is what makes their music so enjoyable.

In the NEXT SECTION, take a look at a few of my favorite shots of the band. You’ll also find a link to the rest of the photos in the photo gallery. CLICK for more photos from Music Under the Stars

Sweet Music

The sound of foot-tapping jazz music drifted through Shallowford Square yesterday evening, as the West Forsyth Jazz Band put on a dynamite performance in Lewisville’s first Music Under the Stars concert of the season.

I found it remarkable that these high schoolers were performing at such a high musical level. Enthusiastically directed by Chris Garmon, a music teacher at West Forsyth, the band capably performed one nicely done song after another. What a talented group of young men and one lovely lady.

The Town of Lewisville, North Carolina sponsored its second Music Under the Stars concert for the year this past Saturday. The Andrew Thielen Big Band, based in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, rolled into town and brought the friendly crowd at Shallowford Square one memorable song after another. Children and adults gathered throughout the evening to dance to the mix of lively and romantic tunes. And let me tell you, the leader of the band, Andrew Thielen, can sure put a hurtin’ on those drums!

Landscape pictures can offer us, I think, three verities - geography, autobiography, and metaphor. Geography is, if taken alone, sometimes boring; autobiography is frequently trivial; and metaphor can be dubious. But taken together, as in the best work of people like Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston, the three kinds of information strengthen each other and reinforce what we all work to keep intact - the affection for life. —Robert Adams
