Stop and Look
December 23, 2009 · By Deb Phillips – The Photo Gal
Colors and shapes: The combination of the red stop sign with a dusting of snow on it, the blue sky and the green lamppost in the distance compelled me to photograph this scene at Shallowford Square.
Unexpected Art
Continuing with photos from last weekend’s snowstorm, today’s photos confirm my belief that art is everywhere, if we’ll only stop and look for it.
Very often it’s the everyday objects and moments that give us the opportunity to capture or create art. Lighting, shapes, colors or textures are often key components of appealing art. Even an ordinary old stop sign can qualify as art!
Looking for Art
As you look at the handful of photos below, I hope you’ll be encouraged to STOP and LOOK for art in the seemingly ordinary moments of life.
Simplicity of color and composition drew me to this scene of fragile, crumpled leaves lying on freshly fallen snow.
Lines, textures, contrast, colors, composition: A number of crepe myrtle trees surround the playground area at Shallowford Square. I love the lines of this tree and its corresponding shadows, the curve of the wall, and the contrasting red color and texture of the bricks.
Colors and angles: The deep blue sky accentuates this scene, while the varying angles of the wood and the icicles along the roof (on the Laugenour House) add a dynamic quality.
In addition to the simplicity of design/composition and color of this photo, the lone leaf evokes a feeling of mystery.
These green and red plants are found at intervals along Shallowford Road through downtown Lewisville. Their colors made me think of Christmas.
Your Thoughts on Art?
Art is certainly a subjective topic, and I wouldn’t dare call myself an art expert! I heartily welcome you to share your thoughts about art in the Comment section below.
