Flying to Neverland

The West Side Civic Theatre raised the bar again this past weekend with their splendid production of Peter Pan. The flying, singing, dancing and acting were fantastic! My (Tilley) hat’s off to the cast, crew, musicians and other volunteers for bringing us such a delightful show, especially in light of the challenges presented by the recent rain spell.

If you didn’t get to see Peter Pan over the weekend, don’t despair. The show will run again this coming weekend, June 11–13 (Thursday through Saturday), starting each night at 8:00 pm. It’s free to the public, and concessions will be available. Just bring a lawn chair, and you’re all set. Chairs may be placed at Shallowford Square no earlier than the morning of each performance.

Once I’ve edited and processed the photos from all of the performances, I’ll set up an online photo gallery for you to look through. Meanwhile, you can see a few more scenes from Peter Pan in the NEXT SECTION. Hope you enjoy them!

More Scenes from Peter Pan

One of the largest crowds ever showed up for the Saturday, June 6, performance of Peter Pan at Shallowford Square. Deb Phillips, photographer.

The Saturday evening (June 6) performance appeared to draw the biggest crowd ever for a West Side Civic Theatre production at Shallowford Square.

Pirates led by their leader, Captain Hook.

Pirates led by Captain Hook performed their share of mischief against Peter Pan and his companions. Toting the pistol is pirate Mark Walek, next to the infamous Captain Hook, played by Jim Shover.

Margaret Williams danced splendidly, along with members of her tribe, in her role as the Indian princess, Tiger Lily.

Were You at the Show?

Hey, if you made it to one of the performances of Peter Pan — or if you’re part of the cast or crew, or one of the other hard-working volunteers — what was your favorite moment in the show? Or do you have some favorite characters? Take a moment and share a favorite in the Comment section below. Personally, I’m kind of “hooked” on those scraggly old pirates!

We saw the play Saturday night, and my family and I were thoroughly entertained. I really enjoyed the scenes with the pirates — they were very comical at times. My daughter’s favorite part was when Peter Pan tricked the pirates. And my son’s favorite part was when Captain Hook was eaten by the crocodile. This was the first play we’ve seen in Lewisville, and we can’t wait to see more. Going back for an encore this weekend!

  2. So glad to hear you and your family had a great time at Peter Pan, Angie. I’m with you — I’m looking forward to seeing it again. Can’t wait!

The pirates in Peter Pan are hilarious. It is hard to be terrified around them when they are so funny.

However, my favorites are the lost boys.
It is fun to watch them adlib on stage.
They make backstage lots of fun while making secret handshakes, dancing to the pirate songs, and shoving sticks, leaves, and mud into their hair in order to make the world of Never Never Land real.

I am honored to be their mother and to be a part of West Side Civic Theatre.
They are a great group of people whom I love!

  4. Hello, Alisha — I mean, “Wendy”! What a thrill to have you drop by!

I hadn’t thought about what backstage is like with the Lost Boys, but I can imagine now how much fun that must be.

I’ve really enjoyed photographing the West Side Civic Theatre productions, and especially Peter Pan. The costumes, comedy and the range of ages is so interesting, visually.

It occurred to me yesterday evening how close the friendships must be between many of the cast, because you spend so much time together, working hard on your craft. I’m sure you’ve formed friendships that will last over the years.

I’m looking forward to tonight’s show, although I’m sad it will be the last performance.

Thanks so much for writing — and “Break a Leg!”

    Hey-

My favorite part of Peter Pan was the flying. It was the most fun I have ever had!! I can’t wait to do another. 🙂 Hey, Alisha. Thank you for dropping by. I will always remember Alisha, Ryan, Joy, and John! It was a great experience, and I can’t wait to do it again!!!

“John Napolean Darling” AKA the one with the top hat. =)

  6. Hello, there, “John” — You and the other “Darlings” were a joy to watch. It really did look like you were having fun flying! I hope you’ll have many more fun and stretching opportunities such as Peter Pan in the years ahead. Your acting was great, and I look forward to seeing you in future roles.

    All the best,
    Deb
