Historic Graveyard Tour – Concord UMC
Touring the Graveyard
The first stop on the 2009 Historic Graveyard Tour held on May 2, 2009 (previously introduced in the Historic Graveyard Tour post) was Concord United Methodist Church. Church members Shelton Barefoot and Wilma Jones shared information and answered questions on the church and the graveyard.
Included in the links below is a five-minute AUDIO CLIP in which you’ll hear Shelton and Wilma explain some of the history of Concord United Methodist Church and its graveyard. As the oldest Methodist congregation in Forsyth County, you’ll hear of the church’s founding in the late 1700s and of the great land deal initiated by charter member, Henry Stultz. You’ll also learn about the numerous veterans buried in the graveyard.

My grandfather was Robah Anderson Dull, and I was told he helped to build Concord United Methodist Church. He passed away around 1955. My father was Perry Anderson Dull, and he died in 1996.
I have visited this graveyard throughout my life, and have looked at the headstones of my ancestors many, many times. When I was growing up, we came to the Dull family reunions.
I would like to know if there is still a marker for Johann Dull in the cemetery. I was always fascinated by him because his was one of the oldest headstones. I believe he was born in the 1700s and died in either the late 1700s or right at the turn of the century. My heritage is German, and I believe he might have been a Hessian who decided to stay in the colonies. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know by e-mail. I would love to learn all that I can about my family and especially Johann. I would also like to know if many of my relatives still attend Concord United Methodist Church.
Thanks.
How interesting, Patricia. Thanks for sharing the connections you have with Concord United Methodist Church. I’ll send you an email with the phone number of a church member who may be able to answer some of your questions.
Thanks so much for writing!
