I confess — I’m the world’s worst cook. Actually, it’s more accurate to say that I’m the world’s best non-cook. Either statement translates to: You wouldn’t want to rely on my cooking to survive!

But that certainly could not be said of the ladies I met at last Saturday’s Cookbook Bake-Off. The bake-off, which took place at the Lewisville Library, was sponsored by the Friends of the Lewisville Library. Many delicious-looking baked goods were provided by members of six area churches. Along with the food, the churches’ respective cookbooks, as well as gift bags and “book bags” prepared by the Friends of the Lewisville Library, were available for purchase.

A panel of four judges — headed by Lewisville’s mayor, Dan Pugh — had the unenviable task of selecting three entries as the top contenders. After serious deliberations, the judges emerged from their “taste chamber” with the winning selections. Prizes were awarded to members of the following churches:

  • 1st Place – Trinity Friends Church
  • 2nd Place – Shallowford Presbyterian Church
  • 3rd Place – Lewisville United Methodist Church

As I edited the photos from the bake-off, two thoughts came to mind:

ONE — The next time I photograph a food event, I’ll take more close-up shots of the food. I think you would have enjoyed seeing photos of the delicious-looking and attractive baked goods the ladies had prepared.

TWO — At my next food event, I’ll also stop scouting for photos long enough to taste some of the delicious goodies! What was I thinking?!
