The Last Calendar
1984
Always popular with customers were the wall calendars that Lewisville Roller Mills gave away each year. The calendars were approximately 12 inches wide by 20 inches high.
Until his death in 1972, my grandfather selected the scenes for the calendars. Later, my Uncle Gwyn filled that role. Although some years the photo options were limited, the scenes that were selected tended either to be of farm or rural scenes, or of scenes representing the seasons. With the mill’s closing in 1984, the calendar give-aways came to an end.
Pictured above is the last year of the Lewisville Roller Mills calendars. At the top of the calender, to the right of the mill’s name, is a box with text that reads: “Owned and Operated By The Jennings Family For 58 Years With Hard Work.” Coupled with his faith in God, my grandfather viewed hard work as a vital component to successful living. (NOTE: The above calendar, as were all the calendars, was printed in full color. The monochrome blue color used to display the calendar is simply for consistency with this website’s color scheme.)
