A Swingin’ Time

The Andrew Thielen Big Band performing in a Music Under the Stars concert in Shallowford Square in Lewisville, North Carolina (Forsyth County). Deb Phillips, photographer.
The Town of Lewisville, North Carolina sponsored its second Music Under the Stars concert for the year this past Saturday. The Andrew Thielen Big Band, based in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, rolled into town and brought the friendly crowd at Shallowford Square one memorable song after another. Children and adults gathered throughout the evening to dance to the mix of lively and romantic tunes. And let me tell you, the leader of the band, Andrew Thielen, can sure put a hurtin’ on those drums!

  2. We have had lots of photographs of the big band over 15 years but you know how to capture the energy of the band in a way I have never seen before. Fabulous job, great photos. Thanks so much. I’ll be ordering some for our web site in the next few days.

  3. Deborah and Andrew: I’m thrilled at your responses to the photos. It means a lot to hear such specific feedback. Thanks so much for writing.

  4. Laine - Winston Salem Dining Out Club says:

Deb, Once again, awesome photos! Your candid shots embrace the joy, the inner feelings, and memories that will last a lifetime. You capture your subjects, who for those brief few moments, have left behind the cares of the world and are caught up in the joy of living. The shots of the children allow us to once again see the world of joy through those innocent eyes. As I viewed each photo I realized what a gift you have to bring the shot to life and enable the viewer to share the feelings. Deb, you have the gift and the soul to tell the stories and create memories! Thanks for sharing!

  5. Laine, you have put into words some of what I feel when I photograph the world around me. I especially feel something deep down within me resonating when I photograph children. The fleeting moments feel like sacred territory. Your words are so affirming, Laine. Thank you.

  7. Thanks, Jone! It *was* a fun time! In fact, I had to resist the temptation numerous times to drop my cameras and join the dancers! It was tough!
