Lewisville Honors Chris Paul

Lewisville Elementary third-graders lift their handmade signs high at a Shallowford Square ceremony, chanting "Chris Paul! Chris Paul!" for several minutes, as they await Chris Paul's introduction.
Hometown Pride
Yesterday the Town of Lewisville honored one of its own, Chris Paul, with a special ceremony to unveil a plaque at Shallowford Square honoring Chris as a gold medalist on the 2008 Olympics USA Basketball Team.
Following the invocation given by Rev. Louis Hunter, Jr., young representatives of Lewisville Elementary School’s third-grade classes presented Chris with a gift.
On and Off the Court
Lewisville’s Mayor Dan Pugh, who knew Chris when he was a Pop Warner football player, reminisced about Chris’ athleticism and also highlighted a conversation he once had with Chris’ grandfather. Although appreciative of Chris’ athletic talent, his grandfather emphasized that his greatest prayer for Chris was that he would be a man of integrity.
Mayor Pugh also recited a long list of Chris’ achievements as an athlete, from his days as a high school basketball player, to his ACC/Wake Forest basketball days, and his present role as an NBA player with the New Orleans Hornets.
Chris’ high school principal, Kurt Telford of West Forsyth High School, shared his recollections of Chris as a student who led by example and humility, both on and off the basketball court.

Peril in Neverland

Captain Hook (Jim Shover), accompanied by his right-hand man, Smee (Phred Rainey), has dastardly plans for Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. Who will prevail?
Looking for a Hero
All is not well in Neverland. Captain Hook and his band of pirates are up to no good. Is there anyone who can defeat such contemptible characters?
Come and be an eyewitness to the classic story of Peter Pan as it unfolds once more at Shallowford Square in Lewisville, beginning tomorrow night. The final shows of the production will run from Thursday through Saturday evenings (June 11–13), getting under way each night at 8:00 pm.
Bring a lawn chair, and brace yourself for calamity, courage and comedy.

Peter Pan Comes to Lewisville

Peter Pan (Joy Dorsey Rushton) prepares to lead Wendy (Alisha Gaskins), Michael (center, Ryan McSwain) and John (Teague Loughman) to Neverland.
Flying to Neverland
The West Side Civic Theatre raised the bar again this past weekend with their splendid production of Peter Pan. The flying, singing, dancing and acting were fantastic! My (Tilley) hat’s off to the cast, crew, musicians and other volunteers for bringing us such a delightful show, especially in light of the challenges presented by the recent rain spell.
If you didn’t get to see Peter Pan over the weekend, don’t despair. The show will run again this coming weekend, June 11–13 (Thursday through Saturday), starting each night at 8:00 pm. It’s free to the public, and concessions will be available. Just bring a lawn chair, and you’re all set. Chairs may be placed at Shallowford Square no earlier than the morning of each performance.
Photo Gallery
Once I’ve edited and processed the photos from all of the performances, I’ll set up an online photo gallery for you to look through. Meanwhile, you can see a few more scenes from Peter Pan in the NEXT SECTION. Hope you enjoy them! CLICK for more scenes from Peter Pan
Jazzed

A smooth saxophone solo was just one of several solo moments performed by members of the West Forsyth Jazz Band for the Music Under the Stars concert series in Lewisville.
West Forsyth Jazz Band
On Saturday, May 16, the West Forsyth Jazz Band played for the Music Under the Stars concert series at Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Under the direction of Chris Garmon, the band performed a variety of jazz pieces throughout the evening, including solos by a number of instrumentalists.
The students and adults playing in the jazz band obviously enjoy making music and sharing it with others. When you look at the evening’s photos in the photo gallery, you can see the passion and enthusiasm in their eyes. That passion coupled with skill is what makes their music so enjoyable.
In the NEXT SECTION, take a look at a few of my favorite shots of the band. You’ll also find a link to the rest of the photos in the photo gallery. CLICK for more photos from Music Under the Stars
