The Offer

This past week I enjoyed the company of two very famous stuffed friends — Woody and Bullseye, from the Toy Story movies. They actually belong to my four-year-old nephew.

I try to visit with my little nephew and his twin sister at least once a week. This week as I was leaving their house, for some reason, my nephew asked me to take Woody and Bullseye home with me until I returned next week. He told me what they liked for breakfast, and he charged me to take good care of them.

If you’ve known children who’ve had much-beloved toy friends, you know what an honor it was for my nephew to entrust Woody and Bullseye to me. I was touched by his trust in me, so off I went with Woody and Bullseye in hand. They quickly found their favorite chair at my abode and were quite content to be waited on, hand and foot, the past few days!

The Emergency

Yet all has not been well with my nephew. I received an “emergency call” from my sister-in-law yesterday afternoon, asking if she could pick up Woody and Bullseye today. She explained that no sooner had I left their house than my nephew began crying, because he hadn’t packed an overnight bag for Woody, so Woody “won’t have anything to wear tomorrow.”

And with even more tears, my nephew proclaimed that he was going to miss Woody and Bullseye. My sister-in-law tried as best she could to console him. Nevertheless, the last few days have been increasingly difficult for my nephew, who has dearly missed his good friends.

So Woody and Bullseye will be going home today, to be rejoined with my nephew, a little earlier than originally planned. Yet I cherish that, at least for a short while, he was willing to share some of his best friends with me. That’s a memory I’ll keep close to my heart.

The Other Friend?

Now, lest I leave out my little niece’s benevolence, continue to the NEXT SECTION to see which friend she sent home with me. Although I’m not exactly sure about it, that’s a memory that will stay with me, too! (...)

Like other photographs in this blog, this photo was also taken in Lewisville, North Carolina. In fact, it was taken inside my house. I’m a bit under the weather at the moment, so “over-the-counter measures” were called for. Hopefully, by the next blog post, I’ll be in much better shape.

Meanwhile, consider attending Lewisville’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Shallowford Square this Friday, December 5, at 7:00 pm. The event is sponsored by the Lewisville Civic Club and the Town of Lewisville. There will be music, refreshments and a visit by Santa.
